THE WORST OFFER ON BLACK FRIDAY

How we made people speak against violence towards women instead of the best deals of the day.

In 2016, Black Friday and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women happened on the same day. Tiendas La Sirena, the biggest retailer store in the Dominican Republic, whom every year supports this social cause, faced a serious challenge standing between their most important day of sales of the year or making a powerful statement to shed light on this problem that affects thousands of Dominican Women. 

Our strategy was risky and bold: Instead of going against the Black Friday frenzy, we hacked it, injecting our social message into one of our offers and provoking a conversation that made the Elimination of Violence Against Women the most talked about topic of that day.

The media and the most prominent celebrities echoed our message, raising their voices for a causa that on the heat on Black Friday could've gone unnoticed. 

People got the message and their previous reactions turned into fervent support for the cause.

We replied each comment with personalized answers, encouraging them to keep standing against what is wrong and to do the same for a problem that affected all of us on a more dramatic scale: violence against women. We also provided the official hotline to report domestic violence.

People got angry and felt victimized, flooding the post with hundreds of infuriated comments and jokes pointing out what they believed to be an act of injustice on a day like this!

People demanded for the best offers so we gave them one impossible to ignore: a big TV screen with a price drop of just US$0.10
